*Mission Nombre de Dios (free) – This beautiful area is the location where Pedro Menendez landed in 1565 and claimed the land for Spain. His Chaplin conducted the first Catholic Mass ever held in the US shortly after landing. Just look for the 200′ stainless steel cross towering above the city that marks this historic site. Be sure to visit this lovely area.

The Byzantine style frescoes are simply breathtaking. There is also a gift shop filled with wonderful Greek treasures. Don’t miss this one!

A Caribbean Vacation Special On Mayreau In The Grenadines

If you are looking for a Caribbean Vacation Special in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, then perhaps you need to do some investigation about the private island of Mayreau. It is a quiet destination found just west of the Tobago Cays. There is no airport on Mayreau so visitors arrive by small cruise ships that dock at Saline Bay on the south west corner of the island.

Mayreau is the smallest inhabited island in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, being only one and a half square miles in area with a permanent population of about three hundred people who all live in a village on the south west of the island.

The real charm of Mayreau, is the fact that this island of all islands in the Grenadines isn’t rich from tourism, so what you are going to see is a side of the Caribbean untouched relatively speaking by the 21st century. If that is important to you, then you must visit.

What you will find is a few dozen simple houses, a few restaurants owned by the locals, all beautifully and colourfully decorated, and a guesthouse. There are also rum shops and pool tables.

You’ll need to hike up the steep hill to the village from Saline Bay or the nice bush path from Saltwhistle Bay, but the reward is a stunning view over Saline Bay to Union Island, whilst you reward yourself with a nice cold drink.

Walk even further and you will find a beautiful little church.[most of the population are Catholics].

The views on all sides from the church are just stunning, across the reefs to the Tobago Cays, and south to Palm Island, Petit St. Vincent, Union Island, as well as Petit Martinique and Carriacou. Loking north you will see Canouan behind which is bequia, and on the horizon you can even see the hills of St. Vincent.

Technically Mayreau is a private island, as one would guess from its name, there is something very French about it, and if you think that, then you wouldn’t be wrong. The British seemed to have forgotten all about it, which has resulted in a number of people who seem to hold ownership. In typical Caribbean style this seems to mean a total lack of coordination as to how it is to be developed.

This is a large part of the charm of Mayreau, but it also means it is quite untidy with no effort apparently made to control the rubbish. There is no supplied electricity, but the hum of generators adds to the feel of old Caribbean

Most visitors to Mayreau come by yacht and arrive at either Saline Bay which has a beautiful clean and very long beach, or Saltwhistle Bay a lovely anchorage at the north end of the island, and site of the Saltwhistle Bay Resort, one of the most exclusive hotels in the Grenadines.

Saltwhistle bay is absolutely beautiful, very much a tropical lagoon in appearance. Most visitors who aren’t either yachties or off small cruise liners, only on Mayreau for the day, stay at the Saltwhistle Bay Resort.

It is small, exclusive, and a world away from the sleepy hillside village.

You may well find it paradise because Mayreau has no roads or cars, and indeed seems at times far from civilization, and that is the main reason that some people will find it to be the place to go for the best Caribbean Vacation ever.

Research A Caribbean Vacation Package To Saint Vincent And The Grenadines

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is an Island Nation in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea and is a less frequented spot for a Caribbean Vacation Package, despite several of its small islands being well known.

Islands like Saint Vincent itself, Bequia, Mustique, Palm, Canouan, Carriacou, Petite Martinique, Union, all appear in many holiday brochures, but somehow The Grenadines remains unknown and somehow off the beaten track.

Even for sailors for whom a visit to the Tobago Cays is an essential part of any Caribbean vacation, seem blissfully unaware of all Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has to offer its visitors.

So welcome to the Islands of the Grenadines, where you will find water in many shades of blue and turquoise, always warm with more wide white sand beaches than you could ever imagine. Here the coral is healthy and fish of every color and shape are abundant in the warm tropical water.

The tiny islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have rightly been described as paradise, perhaps only here can you experience the authentic Caribbean which some feel has been lost forever.

A part of the Caribbean which consists of a number of islands each with its own special charm, with not very many residents, all of whom love where they live, and live in a traditional Caribbean family way where family values mean everything, and friendship is respected above all other things.

Life is different in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines where small islands mean little need for cars. Where people work to live and don’t live to work.

Islands where you can snorkel right off the beach, or hike winding paths worn smooth by generations of local feet.

Beaches unspoilt by modern and noisy electrical appliances blaring out their raucous beat, not that you won’t hear a bit of Caribbean sound!

Small family owned hotels where you don’t need air-conditioning, television, or fancy cocktail bars to tell your friends about, to know what a great time you are having – Grenadines style. Islands where you will a welcome guest in their neighborhood, where when you smile and say “Hello”, will mean the biggest Grenadines smile and response.

A group of islands where the Tourist’s children are actually made welcome, and not just tolerated.

The Grenadines may have undeveloped roads, they may be isolated from what now passes for mainstream Caribbean life, but this isolation has great advantages too. If you are worried about any issues relating to crime, then you can just about forget them in the Grenadines. If you have heard that certain parts of the Caribbean are less than welcoming and are disrespectful to tourists, then you will have no worries in this direction.

If you feel their comparative isolation will make the Grenadines difficult to reach, then forget that worry too.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are some 1600 miles south east of Florida, and St Vincent can be reached by connecting flights from Barbados, St Lucia, Martinique or Grenada, all only a short hop. You can reach all the islands onward by connecting flights or ferry service. It’s remote, but it’s not difficult.

For your next Caribbean Vacation Package, choose Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, because you won’t regret it for one minute.

Madeira Beach : The Best Choice For Vacation Or A Second Home

If Florida is on your list of possibilities for a new home or vacation spot, then it would be worth your time to check out Madeira Beach in Pinellas County. This beautiful barrier island on the west side of the Florida peninsula is known for friendliness almost as much as it is known for beauty and plenty of sunshine. Situated nicely between St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Madeira Beach is not far from the bigger city life if you so desire. And, the Tampa International Airport is approximately a 45 minute drive from Madeira Beach.

Madeira Beach is a residential area but it also has some famous tourist spots as well. The most notable is the shopping and dining area known as John’s Pass. John’s Pass is one of the most visited spots in the entire state of Florida. It’s not only a quaint turn-of-century fishing village but it is a shopper’s delight with over 100 retail shops and restaurants.

Vacation rentals and the real estate market are both sizzling hot in Florida, and Madeira Beach is no exception to the rule. With miles of beach along this small island and the famous Florida sunshine, you will come for a visit and never want to leave again! There are many single family waterfront homes, waterfront condos, and maintenance free townhomes to choose from. With the recent down turn in the real estate market, now is the time to buy your waterfront dream home or your small retirement cottage before prices start going up again.

In addition to the many water activities that you can enjoy at Madeira Beach, there are plenty of theme parks in the area. Take a day and visit one of the many, such as Busch Gardens, Universal Studios, Walt Disney World, or Sea World, all of which are close enough for a drive with kids and far enough away to keep the worst of the tourists out of your backyard. This area of Florida brings you the best of both worlds – fun in the sun and an existing day at a theme park – all within short driving distances.

Stick close to home if you prefer, and enjoy some of the many activities that are available only to those lucky few who live near the beach. Go scuba diving, snorkeling or surfing, or have some dry fun on a boat. Enjoy the wind in your face on a fast boat, the challenge of sailing, or the excitement that can come from catching your own dinner on the open ocean, or even just take a cup of coffee down to the beach in the morning and watch the dolphins play. Madeira Beach is one of the few beaches that is not over-crowded. It’s a great place to come and read a book, bring the kids, or even take a snooze.

Whatever your delight in life, Madeira Beach, Florida has a little something to share with you to make your life all the more pleasant. With many homes available, this is the time to buy and relocate to the Sunshine State along the Gulf. Buy now before prices go up, they always do and you might miss out.

A Caribbean Family Vacation To Saint Vincent

Saint Vincent, one of the British Windward Islands, is a place to be visited on its own as a Caribbean Vacation Getaway.

Saint Vincent tends to be tagged as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, which includes islands like Bequia, Mustique, Canouan to name but three. What then happens is that tourists arrive at Barbados, catch a flight to Saint Vincent, and another flight or a boat to the island in the Grenadines they will be staying on, without taking any time at all to discover Saint Vincent island.

St Vincent is 18 miles long and 11 miles wide, covering around 133 square miles, so it is big enough to ensure no-one gets bored on a Caribbean family vacation because there is something for everyone, and there is no risk of getting lost provided you have a good map!!

There are lots of reasons to stay on Saint Vincent, and it is worth doing some research because it could be the ideal choice for a Caribbean family vacation.

The island of Saint Vincent is the big island of the Grenadines, and is a mixture of rugged mountains, lush forests and many empty beaches. It has an active volcano to the north of the island called Soufriere which as recently as 1979 spread volcanic ash over a wide area.

This helps the locals with their fruit and vegetable growing, meaning unlike other islands in the Grenadines they are self sufficient.

Soufriere is a great attraction if you are energetic and a bit adventurous, being just over 4000 feet above sea level.

Insofar as the rest of the island is concerned there is a small but bustling with energy capital called Kingstown down on the southwest coast With a hire car you can choose to go north on either coast and the road winds along the coastline. The eastern Atlantic Ocean or Windward side is a pretty rugged, rocky coastline with pounding waves which seem to come uninterrupted all the way from Europe. Some of the coastal scenery is dramatic.

On the other hand a trip up the West coast, which is the Caribbean Sea, or Leeward coast has most of the islands beaches and spectacular scenery. Having said that the best and most beautiful beaches on Saint Vincent are on the south coast, one in particular called Villa is only about four miles from Kingston.

The question of where to stay in Saint Vincent is easily solved because the island has a range of hotels to suit all pockets and tastes. Some would be perfect for a Caribbean Family Vacation, and other perfect for the Caribbean Vacation getaway. Amongst the latter, and almost certainly one of the best hotels in the Grenadines is Young Island a tiny and very exclusive hideaway off the south coast. Equally exclusive and definitely suitable for a Caribbean vacation getaway and only reachable by boat is the tiny Petit Byahaut only four miles north of Kingstown on the Leeward Coast.

Possibly the best value for money is The Tranquillity Beach Apartment Hotel, and Beachcombers Hotel a good choice for families.

There are a number of other hotels certainly worth doing some research on.

There is one certain fact and that is Saint Vincent is beginning to be discovered. It is beautiful and unspoilt and local people treat visitors with a courtesy and respect not always found on a Caribbean Vacation Getaway.

Adventure Cruises Perfect for Your Tampa Bay Beach Vacation

The Tampa Bay beaches, particularly St. Pete Beach, have some of the most beautiful waterways of the entire Gulf coast. Unlike the California Pacific coast, Florida’s Atlantic coast, and even the Eastern coast of Florida, the Gulf coastline is pristine and free from litter. The water is clear and wildlife is plentiful. It provides the perfect backdrop not only for a Tampa Bay beach vacation, but also an adventure cruise.

Adventure cruises are short, leisurely boat trips that last two to four hours and span the coastline. Cruisers can take part in sightseeing excursions, including exploring the land from a different perspective and wildlife-watching.

Dolphin-watching is the most popular attraction among adventure cruisers. The fall and winter months, while not as enticing to the vacationer, offer plenty of opportunities to see dolphins because of their migration southward for the winter. During the fall months, it’s actually pretty common to see dolphins bobbing up and down, in and out of the water. If you’re looking for dolphins, there are several charter boats that offer dolphin watching exclusively.

You can also take an adventure cruise to enjoy a day filled with snorkeling or shelling. Boats can depart from St. Pete Beach or Treasure Island and head out to Egmont Key State Park or Fort DeSoto. Those places also offer unbelievable opportunities to observe Florida wildlife in its most pristine, unadulterated form, including a national wildlife refuge. They also feature special landmarks such as historic Fort Dade and the Egmont Key Lighthouse. Be sure to bring your camera so you can capture these gorgeous places.

Adventure cruises typically hold anywhere from 30 to 50 people although you can rent out a charter boat among friends for several hours. Prices are around $ 25 to $ 35 per adult or child, and typically supply you with a life vest, snorkel equipment, and more.

Those rates are in-season rates, however, and you may be able to score some off-season deals if you visit during the months of September, October, November, December, January, or February. Just don’t expect to snorkel or go for a swim during that time, although September and early October would be exceptions.

Make sure that whatever charter boat you ride on has all the necessary safety equipment specified by the U.S. Coast Guard and that the boat and captain are both licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard. Many Tampa Bay beach charter boats offer snacks on board, beverages, bathrooms, and are handicap accessible but it’s wise to call ahead to make sure special accommodations can be made.

Looking for nearby St. Pete Beach Condos or to stay in a Treasure Island Condo Rental? Resort Rentals offers some of the most affordable, family friendly Tampa Bay Vacation Rentals, including beachfront suites and more.
